Republican President Edgar Lungu says Zambia should emulate countries whose economies have thrived through earnings from tourism sector.

Speaking when he officiated at the Pamodzi Carnival in Lusaka today, President Lungu says his government has prioritized tourism as one of the key sectors to stimulate economic growth.

President Lungu says tourism can also play a pivotal role in alleviating poverty in the country.

The Head of State has called for prudent use of the natural resources in order to transform tourism for the growth of the country.

He says the tourism sector has potential to stimulate growth and help the nation in reducing the poverty levels.

He says the country cannot continue to think inside the box saying the country should continue exploiting the country’s resources.

President Lungu says it is for this reason he feels that Zambia should take a leaf from other countries that have done well in the tourism sector.

The Pamodzi Carnival is a cultural event meant to celebrate Zambia’s rich cultural heritage through music and dance, traditional foods and beverages and handcrafts.

The carnival is also being introduced as a new cultural tourism product which offers a unique Zambian experience to both citizens and visitors, as it will bring together the best of Zambia’s traditional music and dance from the ten provinces.
