Govt commits to presenting young people with opportunities

Government says it’s committed to presenting young people with opportunities in education and skills training in order for them to gain skills they need for empowerment or employment.

Youth,Sport and Child Minister Vincent Mwale says the Ministry has developed the first ever action plan on youth empowerment and employment which has provided adequate instruments and strategies for addressing youth unemployment and under-empowerment comprehensively through a multi sector approach.

Speaking when he launched the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions Youth Policy in Lusaka today, Mr.Mwale says the development of the policy is a clear indication of the commitment the Union has toward improving the welfare of the youth in the workplaces and towards effective youth participation in all union matters.

He says government is committed to partner with the trade unions in ensuring that the welfare of the young people including those who are working is addressed.

Mr. Mwale has urged the ZCTU to buy into the recently launched 2015 national empowerment and employment action plan as they implement the ZCTU youth policy.

And Zambia Congress of Trade Unions Secretary General, Cosmas Mukuka says there is need to develop strategies that attack the problems facing the youth at source rather than battling with symptoms.

Mr. Mukuka says the challenges facing the youths are varied saying the Union will soon develop programmes that are relevant to the needs and interests of young workers.

Speaking earlier, ZCTU national youth Chairperson Muleka Kamanisha has called upon the youth in the country to take advantage of the opened doors and take charge by ensuring that the contents of the ZCTU youth policy are disseminated as wide as possible.
