Entrepreneurship is the only way for Zambia- Mwanakatwe

Commerce, TRADE and Industry Minister Margret Mwanakatwe says entrepreneurship is the only way to move the country to the next level.

Speaking during the Women Entrepreneurs’ Development Association of Zambia (WEDAZ) business networking breakfast in Lusaka this morning, Ms. Mwanakatwe says government is determined and committed to mainstreaming women entrepreneurship in the socio economic development of Zambia.

She says government through her ministry is currently implementing policies aimed at creating an enabling environment for women to fully participate in national development, taking into account their needs.

Ms Mwanakatwe adds that the policies are in line with the aspirations of the Sustainable Development Goals which aspire to end poverty in all forms everywhere, achieve gender equality and empower all women girls among other things.

She has further called on cooperating partners and the private sector to partner with institutions such as WESAZ to actively engage in promoting women’s entrepreneurship development as one way of complementing government’s effort aimed at job and wealth creation.

And speaking earlier, WEDAZ Board Chairperson Evelyn Chama says the association supports government’s move to ban the importation of edible oils.

Mrs. Chama has since urged government to ban more products such as protective garments stressing that his association’s members cannot compete with the low quality Chinese garments that have flooded the Zambian market.
