Economist Professor Oliver Saasa says the country can realize closer to what it is getting from the mining industry from tourism, considering the potential that the sector has.
Professor Saasa has told QFM that he is happy that Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda in his 2016 budget speech identified tourism as one sector with the potential to grow the economy if well exploited.
He notes that the potential that the country’s tourism sector possesses has not been fully exploited.
Professor states that once fully utilized the tourism sector is able to contribute to the economic growth of the country.
He has observed that the country has focused so much on crop agriculture in its diversification agenda.
Professor Saasa adds that even in crop agriculture, the target is essentially on maize.
