NRCs issuance not selective – Lungu

Republican President Edgar Lungu says government is not being selective in the ongoing countrywide mobile issuance of National Registration Cards (NRCs).

President Lungu says he is not the kind of person who can instruct ministries responsible for the issuance of NRCs to favor certain provinces considered to PF strongholds.

He says the reasons he is getting from Home Affairs minister Davies Mwila for the challenges being faced in the issuance of NRCs seem to be reasonable, but that he will ensure that the exercise is conducted in a manner that will cheer all Zambians.

He says he cannot compromise the ongoing issuance of NRCs for the interest of the PF because he is a President for all Zambians not just for the PF.

President Lungu has since implored traditional leaders and the people of Zambia to have faith in him saying he is in office to serve the people of Zambia and not to be served.

And the Head of State says he does not want to delay the process of recognizing chiefs in the country when there are no succession wrangles because people need the services of traditional leaders.

QFM’s Albert Mpezeni reports that President said this in Mbabala constituency in Choma District this morning when he met chiefs Mukobela, Chikanta and Chief Choma’s representative.

Speaking at the same meeting, Chief Chikanta says the voter registration exercise is going on well, but that the issuance of NRCs is the one which people have issues with.

He has appealed to President Lungu to ensure that more funds are released so that they increase the numbers of registration points so that more people can be captured for them to take part in next year’s elections.

And Chief Chikanta says the traditional leadership in the province is happy that President Lungu has appointed Greyford Monde as Minister of Fisheries and Livestock.

He says this is especially that Mr Monde is knowledgeable about livestock and will ensure that animals are looked after well.

President Lungu is later this afternoon expected to launch the Electronic Voucher system for the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) in Mbabala constituency.
