RDA, NRFA, ZNS in US$1bn road rehab MoU

The Road Development Agency (RDA) together with the National Road Fund Agency (NFA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to rehabilitate over 10, 000km of feeder roads across the country at a total cost of US$1 billion.

Speaking during the signing of the MoU in Lusaka this morning, NRFA Executive Director Anthony Mwanaumo says the agency has confidence in the ZNS that they will do a great job.

Dr. Mwanaumo states that ZNS is a tried and tested unit in road maintenance and rehabilitation and that the professional effort the service has exerted in executing previous road works in the country speaks for itself.

He says currently, the service is undertaking the rehabilitation of approximately 86.6 kilometers of selected roads in Msanzala, in Petauke district in Eastern Province at a total cost of K27 million.

Speaking at the same event, RDA Chief Executive Officer Kanyuka Mumba has explained that according to the MoU, RDA will execute certain roles which include, developing and approving annual work plans, procurement plan and target cash for ZNS.

Mr. Mumba says the agency will also receive consolidated progress reports from ZNS, receive, consider and certify payment certificates for ZNS and submit to NRFA.

And ZNS Commandant Lieutenant General Nathan Mulenga says the service remains dedicated to fulfill the mandate and ideals that the government stands for and shall do everything possible to construct and rehabilitate feeder roads which will benefit the majority of the people in a long time to come.
