The Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) says government should introduce maize subsidies if they are to maintain or reduce mealie meal prices.
MAZ President Allan Sakala has told QFM News that the cost of production has gone up tremendously while the price of maize has also increased.
Mr. Sakala says millers are in business and therefore cannot subsidize consumers and incur the losses.
He has wondered what kind of business millers will be running and how they will survive if they cannot be allowed to adjust prices according to the costs associated with their production.
Mr. Sakala has since stated that millers will go ahead and effect price increases of between K10 and K15 for mealie meal unless government subsidizes maize.
