Govt urged to stop plans to hike prices of mealie meal

Government has been called upon to quickly intervene in the plans by millers to increase the price of mealie meal.

The government is being cautioned to be wary that any increase in the country’s stable food will compound the already high cost of living.

Some Lusaka residents spoken to by QFM in random interviews have complained that the current load shedding, depreciation of the Kwacha and the hike in the price of fuel are already making their lives difficult.

Esther Kibole a widow says government will be haunted in 2016 if it allows the increase in the price of mealie meal.

Ackson Kondowe who is an arts crafter says government will be letting the people down if it does intervene in the plans by millers to adjust the price of mealie meal.

And Chris Katenda says government should deal with factors that have contributed to the increase in prices of food and services in the country.
