President Edgar Lungu says Zambians are a people who treasure dialogue.

In a speech read on his behalf by Justice Minister Ngosa Simbyakula during the official opening of the 24th African human rights moot competition in Lusaka last evening, President Lungu says Zambia is a nation that has never known war and its people are good people who love to receive guests and share experiences.

He notes that the moot competition has contributed greatly to the development and refinement of the African human rights system.

President Lungu says the moot court competition is the only one of its kind that brings together the brightest young minds in the legal arena in Africa to argue real and challenging issues that trouble the continent.

And speaking earlier, acting University of Zambia (UNZA) Vice Chancellor, Professor Enala Mwase says the competition plays an important role in preparing a new generation of lawyers.

And Centre for Human Rights Deputy Director at the University of Pretoria, Norman Taku says Zambia’s democracy and its attachment to human rights has made it possible for UNZA to host the 2015 moot competition.

The moot competition has attracted about 63 universities from 21 African countries.
