Former Zambian Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union Emmanuel Mwamba has challenged government to tell the nation where the money for salaries for the newly recruited teachers and yet to be recruited health personnel will come from.

Mr. Mwamba says it will not be possible for the newly recruited teachers to be placed on the payroll this year as they will only be catered for in the 2023 national budget.

He explains that it is a known fact that what was provided for in the 2022 national budget was money for the recruitment exercise and not the emoluments for neither the teachers nor the health personnel yet to be recruited.

Mr Mwamba, however, states that unless the salaries will come as a special subvention, there is need for government to share with the nation where the money for salaries for the recruited teachers will come from.

Yesterday, finance  and national planning Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane made an assurance that funds are available to pay salaries to the newly recruited teachers and the soon to be employed Medical personnel, without stating whether the money budgeted for or not.
