The Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia-MQHZ has recommended and supported the introduction of the Pfizer’s covid-19 antiviral pill Paxlovid for patients with milder forms of the disease who were still at a high risk of hospitalization.

The organization says  if government through the Ministry of Health introduced Paxlovid in the country, it will be a satisfying move by the ministry, because covid-19 pills have been seen as a potentially huge step in ending the pandemic as they can be taken at home, rather than in a hospital.

Organization Media and Advocacy Director Francise Kangwa is extremely concerned that the inequality in access seen with covid-19 vaccines would again leave low- and middle-income countries like Zambia pushed to the end of the queue.

Mr. Kangwa has therefore urged the government through the ministry of health to secure more funds to avoid the shortages of covid-19 antiviral pill once introduced in the country.

He has also urged the general public to prevent the outset of a full-fledged fifth covid-19 wave by remaining mindful of the high risk of spread of covid-19 and acting in tandem by adhering to recommended public health safety measures.
