Minister of Green Economy and Environment Collins Nzovu has disclosed that 1 hundred and 23 thousand 9 hundred and four people have benefited from the ongoing Transforming Landscapes for Resilience and Development (TRALARD) project since 2019.

Mr. Nzovu says the project in Luapula, Muchinga and Northern provinces aims at giving support to communities in diversifying livelihoods and improving farming practices.

He says government has prioritized climate resilience in its developmental processes in view of the enormous threat which climate change pauses to the attainment of the country’s development goals.

Mr. Nzovu says so far, the government is pleased with the response it is receiving from the various sectors in combating climate change.

The minister was speaking when he handed over six Toyota land cruiser vehicles to assist in operations during project implementation particularly in Lunga, Chilubi, Chinsali, Kasama, and Mansa and at the Zambia meteorological department where the ministry has recognized implementation challenges.

And Mr. Nzovu has since warned project implementers against misusing the vehicles as the new dawn government does not tolerate abuse of public resources including motor vehicles.

And speaking when he gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the recipients, Zambia meteorological Department Acting Director Martin Swaswa says the TRALARD project has facilitated the establishment of a climate data library, implementation of a solar power back system to support the weather and climate modeling facility at the metrological department.

Mr. Swaswa says the vehicles received will go a long way in supporting the various activities in implementing the TRALARD sub-projects.
