The Tobacco Free Association of Zambia is saddened by the recent approval of the Tobacco Bill, 2022, at the expense of the Tobacco control Bill which has been pending for over 10 years.

Association Executive Director, Brenda Chitindi has explained that the Tobacco Industry Bill is designed to care for the success of Tobacco Companies, while the Tobacco control Bill is a World Health Organization-WHO product to which government promised the World and the Zambians in 2008 that this would be implemented to save lives and reduce critical health costs.

Ms. Chitindi has therefore accused the government of choosing to rush what she has described as the ‘killer bill’ to Parliament but has failed to pass a bill that is targeted at saving the Zambian population.

In a statement, Ms. Chitindi has noted that despite Tobacco consumption killing more than seven thousand Zambian each year, it seems to be getting no attention from government.
