Operation Young Vote (OYV) has described as worrying the number of registered voters captured in the month of June in the ongoing continuous registration of voters.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia recently announced that it registered 1,527 voters in the month of June in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise targeting provincial centers.

Speaking in an interview with QFM News, Operation Young Vote Executive Director, Guess Nyirenda says number of captured voters is very low which should not be expected to come from 10 districts, but a single ward in a given constituency.

Mr Nyirenda says the Electoral Commission of Zambia should rethink the strategy of conducting the exercise.

He adds that the commission should also embark on awareness and sensitization creation of the masses in order for people to be made fully aware of the exercise.

Mr Nyirenda has also noted that the other challenge facing the exercise is that it is only being conducted in provincial centers and has therefore called for the decentralization of the exercise to other districts so that more individuals are registered as voters.
