Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation says the new dawn government places high premium on interventions aimed at improving the water supply and sanitation service delivery in its quest to attain the country’s vision 2030 which seeks to ensure water and sanitation for all.

Minister in charge of Water Development Mike Mposha says the country has made strides towards the attainment of sustainable attainment of the sustainable development goal number 6 which seeks to attain universal access to clean and safe water, and adequate sanitation.

Mr. Mposha says his ministry is seriously championing onsite sanitation service delivery and faecal sludge management.

He was speaking when a delegation from Nigeria Ondo state led by ministry of water resources and public sanitation and hygiene commissioner Yetunde Adeyanju paid a courtesy call on him.

The delegation is undertaking a study visit to the National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) which is the water supply and sanitation regulator.

Mr. Mposha adds that the water sector has been undergoing reforms in order to integrate emerging issues and address a number of challenges that negatively affected the equitable access to water and sanitation services for both rural and urban areas.

And Commissioner Yetunde Adeyanju says the regulatory framework of water supply of Zambia has become a standard and template for water supply in the entire Africa.

She says it is for this reason that her team is in Zambia to benchmark and study the water reform process in Zambia, the legal and institutional setting of the sector, regulatory impact and performance of the water and sanitation providers with a view to leveraging on valuable experiences that had been institutionalized in the Zambia water sector.
