Mutinta welcomes signing of agreement between Zambian govt and African parks

Itezhi tezhi Member of Parliament Twaambo Mutinta has welcomed the recent signing of a management agreement between the Zambian government and African Parks for the Kafue National Park.

Government through the ministry of tourism recently signed a 20-year agreement worth US$20 million with African parks for the Kafue national park landscape’s protection and effective management.

Mr. Mutinta says the community of Itezhi-tezhi has for a long time not been benefitting from their natural resources and are looking forward to a new management system of the Kafue National Park that will not only secure the protection and conservation of Wildlife, but also bring about meaningful community beneficiation in the district and spur the socio-economic development and other opportunities that come with this agreement.

He has also advised African Parks to demonstrate full disclose of the agreement to Chiefs, and all community based stakeholders and adopt a consultative approach in the new management of the Kafue National Park to enhance ownership and manage possible tensions with the community.
