The Economic and Financial Crimes Court has sentenced former Zampost postmaster-general, Macpherson Chanda and two others to 2 years imprisonment on 13 counts of theft by public servant involving over k300, 000, 000.
Ndola Magistrate, Kaunda Sakwanda has ordered the attorney-general to recover, on behalf of the state, the k335 million social cash transfer funds, which the three unlawfully diverted.
In presiding over the matter, Resident Magistrate Kaunda Sakwanda sentenced Macpherson Chanda 47, Best Mwaichi, 51 and Isaac Kamwimba, 48 to 2 years simple imprisonment to run concurrently on all the counts.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) last year, jointly arrested and charged former Postmaster General Macpherson Chanda, Best Mwaichi Director Of Finance And Isaac Kamwimba Director Of Operations for corrupt practices involving over k300,000,000.
In the 13 counts, the trio did steal the money meant for vulnerable beneficiaries of the social cash transfer by fraudulently converting it to other use.
