Matero constituency’s Kapwepwe Ward 25 Councilor Patrick Salubusa has bemoaned the lack of active involvement of key stakeholders in addressing the challenge of criminal gangs commonly known as junkies in the area.

Mr. Salubusa says his office is doing a lot of ground work to address the vice, but that these efforts cannot be enough without those who have been mandated to complement their efforts by the government such as the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

He has told Q-News that the recent cases of attacks and death in Paradise area could have been avoided if DEC could partner with local authorities in deeds and not just on paper.

And Mr. Salubusa has disclosed that his office has partnered with Decisive Minds local organisation to train four people from his ward on how to handle the junkies.

He says the four will be trained for a period of three months and is hopeful that something positive will come out of the program.
