USAID Administrator Samantha Power arrives in Zambia

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power has arrived in Zambia for a series of meetings with President Hakainde Hichilema, senior government officials and other stakeholders.

Administrator Power has this morning met with Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane and Minister of Agriculture Reuben Mtolo Phiri at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

Speaking when she met the Ministers, Administrator Power says the us government through USAID is working towards extending additional support to small scale farmers in Zambia, to expand loan guarantees to small and medium enterprises and support the efforts to secure fertilizer at a time when the commodity is scarce.

She says this comes at the backdrop of global hunger and it’s threats owing to various factors including the geopolitical tension in Ukraine and the Covid pandemic among others.

And administrator power says she wants to use her visit to Zambia to promote the aspirations of the zambian people.

She has noted that the partnership between the zambian and us government has always been strong and is still getting stronger.

And administrator power says the us government wants to support those who want to strengthen the rule of law and democratic accountability in the world.

She says President Biden has taken notice of President Hakainde Hichilema and the new dawn government’s stance at championing the rule of law and reforms that promote good governance.

Speaking at the same event, Minister of Finance And National Planning Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane has commended the us government for the support it has been rendering to Zambia notably the millennium challenge account project which he says the country is looking forward to the next compact.

Later Administrator Power is scheduled to meet with the Head of State at State House before meeting Former Mandela Washington Fellows in the evenings.
