The Millers Association of Zambia has backed government’s projection of mealie meal prices falling gradually as the new maize from small scale farmers starts being offloaded on the market.

Association President Andrew Chintala has told QTV news that the association is expecting to see a downward trend in the price of maize immediately the new crop starts coming on the market.

Mr Chintala says the current price is about K200 for a 50 kg bag of maize which may reduce to K150 thereby resulting in the reduction of mealie meal prices going forward.

He states that the reduced harvest during the 2021/2022 farming season will not have any effect on the mealie meal prices looking at the carryover of the grain that the country had from the previous season.
