The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has noted with concern that the Free Education Policy has compromised the quality of education because government is slow in implementing other measures to support the success of the policy.

NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa says while the Free Education policy is a good initiative; it is being hindered by the delayed recruitment of teachers.

Mr. Chansa says it is worrying that since January when the policy was implemented, there has been so much overcrowding in schools with the teacher-pupil ratio blown out of proportion to unacceptable levels.

He has told Q-news that while NAQEZ supported the teacher recruitment process from the beginning; the organization is fast losing faith because government has on a number of occasions failed to meet its own deadlines without giving proper reasons.
