Republican President Hakainde Hichilema has asked the Drug Enforcement Commission-DEC to finalise the Drug and Substance Control Policy.

Speaking when he graced the 2022 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Lusaka today, President Hichilema has since requested the United Nations country representative to help with best practice and steps that are required to finalise the policy as Zambia is not an island.

President Hichilema says this will help the country to derive laws and regulations which must be domesticated.

He says in order to fight drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the country must have the correct supporting laws and policies.

The President has assured that in its endeavor to reduce and prevent drug trafficking from derailing country’s economic agenda, the new dawn government is determined to do what it takes to be part of the solution and not to exacerbate the problem.

Mr Hichilema has since implored all citizens to join hands with the DEC in the fight against drug trafficking in the country and beyond.

Meanwhile President Hichilema has expressed concern that some quarters of society have been peddling lies that he is an imperialist.
