Align with ILO Convention 131, ZCTU tells private sector

Zambia Congress of Trade Unions ZCTU Secretary General Cosmas Mukuka says the union is engaging the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to revise certain Statutory Instruments that speak to employees wages such as domestic workers so as to harmonize them.

And Mr. Mukuka has called on the private sector to align themselves with the Convention 131 of the International Labour Organization ILO on wage fixing, and pay their employees in accordance with the decent work wages standards.

He says the employment situation is not as bad as it is projected to be, but notes that most of the jobs are not decent.

Mr. Mukuka has charged that that if private companies which are making profit cannot pay their employees in accordance with the decent work wage standards; such companies must wind up operations.
