The Council Of Churches In Zambia [CCZ] has noted with concern comments attributed to a senior military official indicating tolerance and endorsement of the soldiers’ behaviour, to torture and to mistreat the three boys that recently insulted the republican president.

Council General Secretary Emmanuel Chikoya says this kind of behaviour will lead to a culture of impunity by military personnel in the name of defending the commander in chief.

Father Chikoya says the courts are the only institutions in the country to prescribe the form of punishment upon conviction and has called on the government not to allow a system where law enforcers become law breakers.

Father Chikoya also says according to the Zambia Constitution,’’ no person shall be subjected to torture, or inhuman or degrading punishment or other like treatment hence the council is against this background and in agreement with the statement issued by the human rights commission to denounce physical torture as seen in the video by the soldiers.
