Minister of health Sylvia Masebo has challenged women to be proactive and stop talking too much and spending money on events.

Speaking when she launched the Women in Global Health Zambia Chapter in Lusaka today, Ms Masebo says until women begin to walk the talk, they will continue to have ceremonies instead of fighting to have an equal share of the national cake.

She says is alive to the fact that women in Zambia from all spheres of life play a pivotal role in national development, but however, continue to face numerous barriers that hinder their active participation in decision making be it in government institutions, academia or civil society.

Ms Masebo notes that in its 2019 report, the World Health Organisation revealed that over 70 percent of the global health force is comprised of women yet women hold only 25percent of senior roles, an imbalance which she says weakens the health systems due to lack of female talent something she says is unacceptable and needs to change.

She states that for this to change, women need to gather all the support needed from men and fellow women and communities.

The minister notes that countries where both women and men work together for a common goal have seen massive development; hence the need for women to be action oriented and get better results.

Speaking earlier, Women in Global Health Zambia chapter Country Director Dr. Choolwe Jacobs pledged to work with the ministry of health in ensuring that qualified women take up their positions and participate at any level.
