Zambia Alliance for Tobacco Control has implored the Government to take a leaf from the United States of America and ban the distribution and use of Electronic cigarettes in the Country, as well as the booming Shisha industry before the rural communities get trapped in these negative and dangerous trends.

Alliance Secretary General Teddy Mulenga says the US despite not being party to Framework Convention on Tobacco Control has banned the production of some types of Electronic cigarettes.

Dr. Mulenga says while the trend of using vapor giving devices is assumed to be safer than smoking cigarettes, on the contrary, these devices contain a lot more Nicotine than the usual cigarette.

He has noticed that these tobacco products being displaced in some shops for sale if left unchecked will worsen the situation.

Dr Mulenga laments that despite Zambia signing the World Health Organization-WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in 2008, it is still grappling with the domestication of the document which seeks to control and regulate production, distribution, and promotion of Tobacco products in the country.
