A representative from the Anglican children’s program, father Jackson Jones Katete has cautioned members of the public against giving alms to children on the streets.

Father Katete is of the strong view that alms giving to the street children contributes to their continued stay on the streets and in some cases also encourages them to recruit other children to join them in begging for alms.

He tells Q-news that the unfortunate part is that most of the street children use the money they are given to buy drugs that make them violent and cause them to even attack people or molest innocent citizens.

Father Katete says his organization has also discovered that some children on the streets are not real vulnerable children, but juvenile delinquencies who ran away from their homes during the day
