Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe has disclosed that the report on the cleaning up of the cadastre system is ready and that the findings are saddening.

Mr Kabuswe says the results of the cleanup process will soon be made known to the public to help appreciate what was happening and the next steps to be taken.

And the Minister has warned all those using Mining licenses to speculate or sale the mines to desist from doing so, but instead use the licenses to maximize and actualize the potential of mines in Zambia.

Mr Kabuswe said this when he officiated at the Lusaka province stakeholder consultative meeting on the development of the mineral resources development Policy aimed at hearing submissions from players in the mining sector on how best the sector can be improved and what policies can be removed, added or improved upon.

And Mr. Kabuswe has stressed the need for the new document to be practical as opposed to being theoretical.

The minister states that much talk has been done around improving the mining sector and that it is now time to actualize the potential that the mining sector holds and ensure that local PEOPLE and the country at large benefits through a good and all inclusive policy.

Speaking earlier, Center for Trade Policy and Development (CTPD) Head of Research Boyd Muleya advised government to ensure the new Mineral Resources Development Policy is in line with the SADC Mining protocol and the African Mining provision.
