The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has said the fight against corruption in Zambia is still on course contrary to assertions by some opposition political figures that the government has failed in its mission.

UPND National Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says the party in government is using the rule of law to fight corruption the reason why some people from the former ruling party tend to be acquitted by the courts of law because it operates on tangible evidence to prove court cases.

Mr. Mweetwa has told journalists at a media briefing that the UPND is cognizant of the fact that some quarters of the public have expressed mixed feelings over the matter because of the failure to secure convictions in cases involving former senior government officials who are alleged to have plundered National resources.

He has assured that the government remains steadfast and resolute to the fight against corruption within the realm of the rule of law.

And Mr. Mweetwa has charged that President Hakainde Hichilema has so far fixed the governance part of his campaign promises and the only thing remaining is to fix the economy which he says cannot be fixed in a space of ten months when it took the Patriotic Front regime ten years to mess it up.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mweetwa has disclosed that the net recruitment of teachers and health workers is still on course and the names of successful applicants will soon be announced by relevant authorities at the right time as deemed by the authorities.

He has also urged opposition political leaders such as Dr Fred M’membe of the Socialist Party and Wynter Kabimba of the Economic Front should not abuse their freedoms of expression by making malicious statements against the Head of State and the New Dawn government.
