Small Scale Farmers Development Agency (SAFADA), Executive Director, Boyd Moobwe has appealed to the government to consider increasing the maize price announced by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

The FRA has announced that it will buy a 50kg bag of maize at K160 an increase of K10 on last year’s price of K150.

Mr Moobwe says those that have welcomed the price announced by the FRA are people who are not farmers, but those who are in the maize trading business.

He notes that it’s because of the high fertilizer price and the low maize price that most commercial farmers in the country are no longer growing maize.
