Parliamentary Committee on Health, Community Development and Social Services Chairperson, Christopher Kalila says the revelations that at least 4,200 girls in sub-Saharan Africa are infected every week with HIV are a time bomb.

Dr. Kalila who is also a former Deputy Health Minister in the Rupiah Banda led MMD administration says the numbers are alarming and has called for more concerted efforts in controlling the new HIV infections in the country.

He tells QTV News that it is impossible for the country to attain economic development with a sick population, thus the need to tackle this issue head on.

Dr. Kalila who is also United Party for National Development Lukulu East Member of Parliament says this is a wakeup call and calls on relevant authorities to go back to the basics.

He says the country needs a lot of investments in terms of financing home grown solutions to this problem.
