Govt resubmits the revised Zambia Media Council (ZAMEC) bill to ministry of Justice

The Ministry of Information and Media has Government has resubmitted the revised Zambia Media Council (ZAMEC) bill to the ministry of Justice for further processing towards enactment.

And the Inter news organisation with funding from USAID has today donated several radio equipment worth over 2.5 million united states dollars to 19 community radio stations in 6 provinces of Zambia.

Speaking when he officiated at the handover of the equipment in Lusaka today, Ministry of Information and media permanent secretary Kennedy Kalunga who was representing the minister stressed government’s commitment to supporting and facilitating the media self regulation process .

And Mr Kalunga noted that most radio stations where adversely affected by the COVID-19 which they have not recovered from and therefore are in need of any assistance to help them boost their businesses.

He has therefore commended USAID for enhancing the capacity of the community radio stations which are under the Open Spaces Project Zambia by providing them with vital broadcasting equipment which includes Computers, hard drives, Solar power supply equipment, microphones, mixers and transmitters among others.   

Speaking earlier, USAID head of mission, Sheryl Strumbas urged government to expedite the process of implementing the Access to Information Bill, the review of the cyber laws and crimes bill and the review of the IBA Act.

And Open Spaces Zambia Project Chief of party, Teldah Mawarire is confident that the equipment donated will help the radio stations in being efficient, professional and effective.
