VEEP defends countries that flew rainbow flag at their embassies in Lusaka

Government has challenged the Opposition Patriotic Front and other Political Leaders in the country to state their position on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBTQI).

Vice President Mutale Nalumango says the united party for national development even during their time in opposition when they were being accused of embracing gay rights, clarified that it does not promote gay rights in the country.

The Vice President was responding to a question from P-F Mpika Central Member Of Parliament Francis Kampyanga who wanted to know what action the government has taken to Swedish and Finnish Embassies that flew the rainbow flag, a symbol Of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBTQI).

And Mrs. Nalumango has defended countries that recently flew rainbow flag at their embassies in Lusaka.

Mrs. Nalumango has wondered where the patriotic administration was, when the embassies flew the flag in the past four years but wants the upnd administration to take action now.

The vice president has explained that once the hosting country gives the land to an embassy it immediately becomes their own.

And responding to Patriotic Front Mporokoso Member of Parliament Brian Mundubile who asked whether the country should rethink her position on the AFRICOM Office, Mrs. Nalumango maintained that government has no intention to establish any military base through the USA African Command (AFRICOM).

She has told Parliament that the office being created is an office of security cooperation which will be based at the US embassy stressing that there will be no base set up in Zambia.

Mrs. Nalumango says this office will work hand in hand with the defence forces of Zambia to enhance military to military relations, expand cooperation, and enforce management and modernization as well as military professionalism.

She says Zambia like many countries within the region and beyond has had military cooperation with bilateral partners.

The Vice President says the US Africa Command being referred to by armchair critics is based in Germany and that the Zambian government has not at any given time agreed to move it to Zambia.
