Tear gas detonates at LWSC in Lilanda compound

A tear gas canister detonated at the Lusaka water and sanitation company in Lusaka’s lilanda compound.

The offices are guarded by police officers. 

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale who has confirmed the development today says the incident occurred yesterday at around 10:30 hours in lilanda compound.

Mr. Mwale explains that police preliminary investigations revealed that the canister is suspected to have been ignited by some mechanical causes thereby discharging irritants which caused panic in the surrounding community including pupils at lilanda combined school which is situated near the guarded LWSC premises.

He says several pupils were affected by the irritant and were rushed to George clinic and Matero level 1 hospital where they were attended to and later discharged and their condition is reported to be stable.

Mr. Mwale says police have since opened an inquiry file to establish the actual cause of the incident.
