The Zambia Police have arrested and charged with attempted murder a 29-year-old truck driver identified as Smart Phiri who almost run over a police officer who was on duty along the Lumumba and Kafue road traffic lights.
The incident happened when the said driver disobeyed traffic signals and drove on almost hitting the officer who, in trying to save his life, jumped on to the front bull bar and swung for some time while the Hino Truck was still in motion.
Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale says Smart Phiri is detained in police custody waiting for court appearance while his motor vehicle has been impounded.
Mr. Mwale says the officer managed to throw himself off the moving vehicle and sustained some minor injuries.
