Secretary to the Treasury, Felix Nkulukusa has denied making a statement to the effect that the government has removed legumes from the Farmer Input Support Program (FISP),a move which has been condemned by a wide range of stakeholders.

Mr. Nkulukusa has clarified that at no point did he make such a pronouncement.

He has told QTV news in an interview that the only powers he has is to advise government on how best it can implement programs such as the farmer input support programme (FISP), Constituency Development Fund [CDF], School Grants among others.

Mr. Nkulukusa says so far, the government has not made any such decision.

He has explained that the decision that the government made in the 2022 National Budget was to move to an electronic integrated agriculture program.

Mr. Nkulukusa states that because of the cost of the fertilizer owing to the ongoing war in Ukraine, the private sector may not be able to pre-finance the procurement of Fertilizer.
