The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia and BBC Media Action have withdrawn their participation from the Media Self-Regulation Technical Working Group (TWG) that proposes to set up the Zambia Media Council (ZAMEC).

Confirming the development in a statement, MLC Chairperson Enock Ngoma who has not given reasons for the withdrawal says the two organizations will henceforth no longer be part of the media self-regulation process in Zambia.

Mr Ngoma says the Technical Working Group Secretariat has since moved from MISA Zambia to the Media Network on Child Rights and Development (MNCRD) offices.

He says the Media Liaison Committee remains indebted to the two organizations for their technical and financial support they rendered to the process thus far.

Mr Ngoma states that the MLC will continue engaging with the government through the Ministry of information and media to ensure the media self-regulation backed by law is finalized.
