A health expert has revealed that getting infected with covid-19 gives one some form of immunity against serious re-infection and possible death form the virus.

Professor Lackson Kasonka who is also ministry of health permanent secretary in-charge of technical services has stated that the low numbers of covid-19 cases that were recorded in the fourth wave and currently can somewhat be attributed to high number of cases that were recorded in the third wave where thousands of people got infected as well as to vaccinations.

He tells Q-news in an exclusive interview that when one suffers from covid-19, their bodies develop anti-bodies that help in fighting the virus after re-infection.

Professor Kasonka states that even the vaccines that are given for COVID and other infections contain the virus which is injected in the body to develop anti-bodies that will fight infections and re-infections.

He has however, stressed the need for citizens to get vaccinated against covid-19, stressing that the vaccination provides guaranteed protection from infection, re-infection and severe illness or death.

Meanwhile Mr. Kasonka is of the belief that vaccination has to a large extent helped in reduced cases of influenza.

He states that the cases of respiratory infections such as flu currently being recorded in Zambia are not as much as before the coming in of COVID vaccines.
