Movement for restoration teachers association MORETA Zambia has expressed concern on the continued mushrooming of teachers trade unions in the education sector.

Speaking during the press briefing held in Lusaka today, executive secretary Misheck Kalungu alleges that some teachers trade  unions are not performing their mandate but only soliciting moneys from teachers to join them.

Mr. Kakungu further notes that there is need to do away with some trade unions and come up with one trade union that will represent all the teachers’ across the country.

He has noted that if implemented, this will bring sanity in the education sector.

He further urged the labour commissioner to ensure that the right things is done among teacher unions by ensuring that they perform their rightful mandate of representing teachers rather than commercializing the teachers trade unions program.

At the same briefing MORETA executive director Dr. Samuel Mbumba has urged applicants in the teachers recruitment exercise to be patience with government as they know when they will release the names of the successful teachers.
