The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has noted with concern the lack of a rehabilitation centre in the country.

DEC senior assistant commissioner in-charge of education and counseling department Dr. Isaac Masiye has disclosed that most of the people that need rehabilitation in the country are taken to chainama mental hospital  which should not be the case.

Dr Masiye notes that a mental hospital is not the same as a drug rehab centre because drug addicts are not mental patients although mental patients can be drug addicts.

He discloses that land has been allocated towards the construction of the rehabilitation centre but lack of funding is what has delayed the construction of this facility.

He has since called for concerted efforts from the government agencies, non-governmental organizations and also donors to ensure that this facility is in place as soon as possible.

He however mentions that there is a connection between mental health and drug addiction which should be talked about and ensure that the difference is noted.
