Government says it is discussing with partners and other stakeholders to consider adding another category for social cash transfer programme.

Currently, female headed households, child headed households, severely disabled, the old and those who are chronically ill and on palative care, are the five categories that are eligible to be on the programme.

However, community development and social services minister, doreen mwamba has disclosed that government, in its quest to upscale the programme, will soon introduce an additional category.

Ms. Mwamba made this revelation in eastern province where she is on a developmental tour of duty to check on various social protection programmes.

Ms. Mwamba says an additional category will be announced in due course after all the discussions have been held with cooperating partners.

She has urged traditional leaders to help in identifying those who are eligible to be on the programme so that more people can start to access social protection programmes.

She was speaking when she paid a courtesy call on chief Pembamoyo of Vubwi district in eastern province.
