The Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (ZIPAR) is urging the government to continue with its tough austerity measures by keeping the budget in line progressively to reduce the pressure on the economy so that the inflation rate can continue going down.

ZIPAR Executive Director, Herrick Mpuku says this is when people will begin feeling the benefits of the economic turnaround.

Dr. Mpuku has observed that there has been compliance to budget targets as compared to the past when were budget overruns leading to excessive borrowing from the central bank.

He says government’s strict adherence to its budget expenditure is what has contributed to the stability and lowering of the inflation rate among others.

Dr. Mpuku notes that the economic outlook looks positive; stressing that what is needed is policy consistence.

And Dr. Mpuku has told QTV news in an interview that the stabilization of the exchange rate creates a lot of certainty in the economic environment.
