Political Activist Dante Saundershas disagreed with President Hakainde Hichilema’s request to parliament to consider removing death penalty from the laws of Zambia.

Mr. Saunders says plunderers of national resources should be the ones to face death penalty because their crimes deprive Zambians of essential drugs in health facilities, quality education, provision of clean water and good sanitation which those plundered resources could have provided to citizens.

He says maintaining the death penalty in the law and passing it on offenders who plunder national wealth, would be the best weapon to fight corruption in the country and deter would be offenders of corruption in government.

Mr. Saunders however says the intention to remove the death penalty in the law should be subjected to national debate and allow citizens to decide on the matter.
