The opposition Economic Front has called on government to reopen Chambishi Metals Plc and Chibuluma Mine Plc.

Party Chairperson for Mines and Mineral Development, Shadreck Mwale is disappointed to see government spending sleepless nights fighting political opponents in the name of fighting corruption instead of using that energy to engage the owners of Chambishi Metals and Chibuluma Mine to reopen the mines so that workers can return to work and create business opportunities for the people on the Copperbelt particularly suppliers and contractors.

Mr. Mwale has told QTV news that these two mines have been closed for quite some time thereby making the lives of workers difficult and causing more damage to the plant.

He says the continued closure of these mines is not adding any value, but only damaging the plant and depriving business opportunities and jobs to the people.

Mr. Mwale is further proposing that if the owners are not willing to reopen the mine, government should repossess it and begin to operate it or bring in a new investor.
