About 680,974 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to members of the public following the relaunch of the vaccination campaign seven days ago.

Giving an update on the COVID-19 situation and the ongoing vaccination program, acting Health Minister Charles Milupi disclosed that of the over 680,000 people that have been vaccinated so far, 45% are males while 55% are females.

Mr Milupi says of those vaccinated, 6% are people aged 60 and above; 24% are children aged between 12 and 17 with 69% being those aged between 18 and 59.

The minister says the vaccination rate has currently increased to about 25 percent.

Mr. Milupi has attributed the success attained in reaching the current high numbers to the concerted efforts among all stakeholders who include the Local Government structures, religious, traditional and social society leaders as well as teachers, members of the defence forces and the media.

And Mr. Milupi says Zambia in the last 24 hours recorded 104 new confirmed COVID-19 cases detected out of 2,304 tests conducted representing a national positivity of 5%.

He says the country has for the third consecutive day not reported any COVID-19 death.

Mr Milupi adds that there are currently 693 active cases, out of which 13 are admitted to healthcare facilities across the country with six on oxygen therapy.
