Minister of Water Development and Sanitation Mike Mposha has granted a 90 days amnesty effective today to illegal water users so that they can normalize their illegalities.

Mr Mposha has warned that any water users who will fail to take advantage of this amnesty will be dealt with in accordance with the law

He says the nomalisation of the illegalities will ensure that the affected obtain water permits that would secure their investments.

Mr Mposha says such water users are therefore urged to take advantage of the amnesty by presenting themselves to WARMA to discuss the process and procedures required to normalize their illegalities.

The Minister has implored commercial water users across the country to observe the provisions of the law, particularly the Water Resources Management Authority Act no.21 of 2011.

Meanwhile Mr Mposha says the new dawn administration recognizes the importance of enhancing water security for the people and for socio and economic development.

Speaking during the commissioning and hand-over ceremony of Shikezhi dam in Kalumbila district of north western province today, Mr Mposha notes that the people of Kalumbila have for a long time been facing water challenges.

He says the low access to water for communities has heavily contributed to an increase in water borne diseases such as diarrhea and typhoid , among others, resulting in low productivity in the country’s economic activities including in agriculture and mining.

Mr Mposha says government with support from cooperating partners is implementing a number of water intervention programmes across the country including the construction and rehabilitation of boreholes, dams and piped water schemes.
