Suspected foot and mouth disease has broken out in Chitete Ward in Chikankata District of Southern Province killing some heads cattle.
Confirming the development, Chikankata District Commissioner, Timothy Chipolyonga says he has received reports that animals are dying in Chitete Ward causing panic among cattle farmers.
Mr. Chipolyonga says he has since contacted relevant authorities to quickly investigate the report and ascertain what type of disease is killing animals in Chitete Ward.
And when contacted, Chikankata District Fisheries and Veterinary Officer, Dr Abraham Msoni said his office is on ground to verify reports of the cattle disease outbreak in the area.
Meanwhile area Member of Parliament Jacqueline Sabao has disclosed that Chikankata is scheduled for a mass vaccination of livestock against foot and mouth and other diseases expected to commence on 16th May, 2022.
