Veteran politician Chifumu Banda says the provision of free education will compromise quality education if the new dawn government does not urgently address the challenge of the pupil-teacher ratio in schools across the country.

Mr. Banda tells q news that in as much as the provision of free education is welcome, there are several challenges that government should urgently address such as the shortage of teachers, the lack of adequate desks and classroom blocks as well as proper accommodation for the teachers.

He is therefore hopeful that the recruitment of 30,000 teachers will be actualized sooner than later in order for the free education policy not to be compromised.

And Mr. Banda has urged the ward development committees to push for the access of funds meant to pay for school fees and bursaries for the vulnerable in the communities.

Meanwhile ministry of education permanent secretary  Joel Kamoko has assured the country that teachers will  be recruited soon.

Speaking in an interview with q news , mr. Kamoko says the idea to employ more teachers was home grown , it has been financed and teachers will be there .
