University of Zambia (UNZA) Historian Euston Chiputa has cautioned Patriotic Front officials that they will be making the biggest political mistake if they are considering bringing back former President Edgar Lungu to contest on its ticket in 2026.
Dr Chiputa says such a decision by PF Members of the Central Committee would the biggest mistake and that the former president knows very well.
He is wondering which presidential aspirant is preferred for the Patriotic Front after leader of the opposition in parliament Brian Mundubile, former Ambassador to Ethiopia, Emmanuel Mwamba and former National Democratic Party (NDC) President, Chishimba Kambwili were sidelined from the Central Committee.
Dr. Chiputa has encouraged former President Lungu not to make a mistake of contesting the 2026 elections but continue enjoying the respect from Zambians.
And Dr. Chiputa says looking at the recent appointments made by the Patriotic Front, there will be no match for the UPND in the 2026 elections unless a third political force emerges.
