Government has warned that it will be strict with the five golden rules to mitigate the spread of Covid 19.

The five golden rules include, masking up in public, maintaining high levels of hand, general personal and environmental hygiene, keeping physical distancing, avoiding crowded places and visiting the healthcare facility when unwell.

Health minister Sylvia Masebo says government relaxed some interventions with caution, hoping that by 30th June 2022, the country would have reached 70% coverage and yet it is only at 21%.

Ms. Masebo says vaccination against covid-19 is the only hope to assuring a reduced incidence of covid-19, hospitalizations and deaths due to this disease.

Speaking during a media briefing, Ms. Masebo says government through the ministry of health has planned a 10-day nationwide campaign to increase the uptake of vaccines.

She says for the government to protect everyone including the elderly, the pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers and those with chronic disease conditions, there is need to have a fully vaccinated society.

The minister has disclosed that in the last 24 hours the country recorded 31 new covid-19 cases out of 1,638 tests conducted countrywide.
